WA Atlas Upgrade

The WA Atlas was recently upgraded

Aug 2007

The new WA Atlas is now live.

May 2007

The WA Atlas migration is progressing with the offical cut over date of mid August now confirmed.

April 2007

The WA Atlas migration is progressing with the offical cut over date of the begining of June being discussed.

March 2007

The WA Atlas migration is currently on track with User Interface testing having been performed by the agencies.

February 2007

The new WA Atlas is undergoing DEV testing at present with a view to conducting UAT testing end March.  Appropriate agencies will be contacted to undertake this testing.

January 2007

A Draft User Interface document has been compiled with feedback from the focus group meetings.  This is built upon a previous generic mapping User Interface document but tailored to the new Atlas environment.  Draft User Acceptance tests are also being developed.

December 2006

A small focus group of WALIS community members has been reviewing the draft User Interface for the Atlas.  Data migration has commenced as well as documentation of back end workflows and a re-vamped helpfile and FAQs on the new Atlas.

November 2006

Data determined to be suitable for the Atlas should be migrated in the near future.  Back end processes such as setting up help files, FAQs and workflow processes are also underway.  This will include regimes for quality control of data, and the WALIS office conducting a small user interface testing workshop.  A small number of datasets are also still undergoing review for inclusion in the new Atlas version.

October 2006

A review of current Atlas datasets is underway to make sure the Atlas datasets are suitable and up to date.  Data custodians are nominating datasets to be migrated to the new environment and whether any data needs to be archived.  It is anticipated that where possible, the datasets migrated to the new environment will be SLIP data services to reduce duplication of data.  Only current data is being assessed with potential future data to be investigated once the migration is complete.

September 2006

A draft version of the Atlas has been created and was presented at the WALIS forum.  User testing has commenced in an informal manner, and key testing documentation is being prepared for formal testing to commence shortly.  The draft Atlas appears to have significant speed and design improvements despite being on test servers with little load.

August 2006

Work is preparing to get underway on upgrading the WA Atlas to the new SLIP map viewer environment.  It is anticipated that data will be migrated to the new Atlas where possible and the WALIS office will be contacting custodians in the near future to discuss migration of their data.  At this stage, no new data will be added until the migration is completed successfully.
