Insurance Workshop - June, 2007

Spatial information is becoming increasingly valuable to the insurance/risk industry, both in terms of improving risk assessment and in minimising losses caused by an event. In 2005, the Australian Spatial Industry Business Association (ASIBA) ran a spatial interoperability demonstration project (SIDP) roadshow, the aim of which was to highlight possible uses of spatial information being accessed simultaneously from several different sources and systems. One of the case studies was based on a fictional insurance company using data about storms to inform and provide a service to their policy holders and make their business more financially efficient.
