SSI Spatial Information and Cartography Commission Specialist Certification

A Geographic Information Systems Professional – Asia Pacific (GISP-AP) is a certified geographic information systems (GIS) Professional who has met the minimum standards for ethical conduct and professional practice as established by the SSI Spatial Information and Cartography Commission.

SSI Spatial Information and Cartography Commission has changed the way GISP-AP is granted.  The cerfitication changes will take place on 31 December 2008.  Until that time, the "Long Term Practice Provision" (a "grandfathering" provision in the GISP-AP Program) provides an opportunity for established GIS professionals to obtain GISP-AP Certification based only on their long term professional GIS work experience and contributions to the GIS profession, without having to meet the educational standards associated with the regular pathway to GISP-AP Certification.

After 31 December 2008, all applicants for GISP-AP Certification will have to meet the educational, professional GIS work experience, and contributions to the GIS profession standards associated with the regular pathway to GISP-AP Certification, in order to be granted GISP-AP Certification by the SSI).

For full deatils on the changes, please visit the SSI website on Cerfitication.

Note: The "cut-off date" for the next round of applications for GISP-AP Certification, via all application pathways, is 30 April 2008.  However, there is an additional cut-off date of 31 December 2008 .
