Competition Requirements

Spatial Technology in Schools Competition 2007


The main criteria of the project is that it must use a GIS to analyse the data and must use a GIS to present the data.

Project should include

  • Why the problem was chosen
  • How the task was approached
  • Data/software used
  • What was achieved?
  • Results and discussion
  • Future research potential
  • Problems encountered
  • References cited


Presentation format can be

  • Poster
  • Workbook
  • Research paper
  • PC presentation (e.g. PowerPoint)
  • Video
  • Webpage
  • Other creative format


Judges will use criteria such as

  • Use of GIS and/or other SIT
  • Complexity of the problem
  • Logic of the process
  • Structure of the project
  • Value of the outcomes
  • Quality of the arguments
  • Presentation

Role of teachers

  • Coordinate student groups

  • Meeting with mentor, teacher and students early May - decide on project subject, data acquisition, software required
  • Software training if required
