The WALIS Office, the central hub around which most activities are organised, formulates strategies and produces general standards and policies for data management and access. The WALIS Office has eleven staff members who work together to help the WALIS Community achieve their goals.

Dr Marnie Leybourne, Director

Marnie Leybourne is the Director of the Western Australian Land Information System (WALIS). She has worked in the WA public sector for over 12 years, mostly in the area of natural resource management. She has post-graduate qualifications in Development Studies from University Institute of Development Studies in Geneva, a Diploma in business and administration from Massey University in New Zealand and a PhD in Geography from Lyon University, France. She has undertaken research on agricultural and pastoral societies in Syria, Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia. Marnie is past chair of the WA region of the Spatial Sciences Institute and president-elect for SSI nationally.

Ms Kerry Smith, Administration Assistant

Kerry has recently joined the team in the role of Administration Assistant. Previous to WALIS, Kerry worked within the private sector and local government. She provides administrative support to the WALIS division and is the Personal Assistant to the Director. Kerry is also the executive support to the WALIS Advisory Committee. Kerry will be your first point of contact when you call the main telephone number or if you wish to make an appointment with the Director.

Kumar has worked in various areas of Landgate over the last ten years and brings to the WALIS team a breadth of experience. Kumar will be working with the various WALIS agencies and associate members to develop and facilitate projects and communications.

Mr Dan Sandison, A/Senior Project Manager

Dan has close to 20 years experience in the spatial information industry and has worked in the US and other international projects. After completing undergraduate studies with honours in the US, he decided to do postgraduate studies at Curtin and never left Perth. Finding a natural home in the WALIS office his contribution to the state's spatial information industry is welcomed. His current responsibilities as Acting Senior Project Manager relate to complex cross-government spatial information initiatives, data custodianship and driving SLIP.

Ms Jenny Smith, Senior Project Officer

Jenny joined the WALIS office team in January 2008. She has worked in the spatial information industry since 1995. Jenny started at Landgate in 2001, working on diverse projects in Geographic Services Division and Land Administration Services. Her current responsibilities are facilitating the various projects for WALIS with the main focus being the WALIS Marine Group.

Mr Derrick Chan, A/ Senior Project Officer

Derrick has recently joined the WALIS office in the position of Senior Project Officer. Derrick has over 20 years experience working in government for authorities such as CALM, Bush Fires Board and DPI in areas like native title, preparation of easements, roads and reserves for Crown land and freehold land administration. Previous to WALIS he was the Quality Assurance Coordinator for Landgate. Derrick will be overseeing the project coordination on WALIS Forum and a number of new SLIP Focus Areas such as Infrastructure Planning, the coordination of the State Land Information Capture Program (SLICP) and assisting the SLICP team to migrate the new SLICP portal into SLIP.

Ms Melissah MacKenzie, Project Officer

Melissah started with Landgate in early 2002, working in the organisational change and policy area until joining WALIS in June 2008. Her tenure with the organisation has provided her with well-rounded experience and broad knowledge. Melissah’s responsibilities include WALIS News, the e-newsletter and event coordination, including WALIS Forum.

Ms Marion Gilbert, A/ Project Officer

Marion joined the WALIS team from the Information Services Executive division within Landgate. She has a wealth of experience gained from working in various government departments such as ArtsWA, Water and Rivers Commission and Water Corporation. Marion is currently working on WALIS News, WALIS Forum and the ISO Standards.

Ms Jade George, Project Officer

Jade comes to the WALIS Office from Landgate, where she has been building on her experience as a GIS Officer. Jade's responsibilities include managing the WA Atlas and Interragator + from the WALIS Community perspective, developing SLICP and various other projects.

Siobhan has recently joined the WALIS Office, coming from the University of Western Australia where she was studying a Bachelor of Arts/ Laws. Siobhan will be responsible for executive support to SMG, WALIS Council and various sub-committess and she is looking forward to putting her knowledge and skills to good use as part of the WALIS team.
