WALIS Office

The WALIS Office, the central hub around which most activities are organised, formulates strategies and produces general standards and policies for data management and access. The WALIS Office has ten staff members who work together to help the WALIS Community achieve their goals.

Dr Marnie Leybourne,  Director

Marnie Leybourne is currently the Director of the Western Australian Land Information System (WALIS).  She has worked for the WA Government for 10 years, formerly with the Department of Agriculture and the Water and Rivers Commission.  She has undertaken research on agricultural and pastoral societies in Syria, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Australia and holds a PhD in Geography from Lyon University in France.  Marnie is also currently Chair of the WA Region of the Spatial Sciences Institute and chairs the special interes group, Women in Geographic Information Technology.

Kerry has recently joined the WALIS office and has taken over the role of Personal Assistant/WALIS Administration Assistant on a permanent basis.  Kerry will be your first point of contact with the when you call the main telephone number or if you wish to make an appointment with the Director.

Mr Kumar Balakrishnan, Manager, WALIS Governance and Reporting

Kumar has worked in various areas of Landgate over the last ten years and brings along to the WALIS team a breadth of experience.  Kumar will be working with the various WALIS Agencies and associate Members to develop and facilitate projects and communications.

Mr Dan Sandison, A/Senior Project Manager

Dan has close to 20 years experience in the spatial information industry and has worked in the US and other international projects.  After completing undergraduate studies with honours in the US, he decided to do postgraduate studies at Curtin and never left Perth.  Finding a natural home in the WALIS office his contribution to the state's spatial information industry is welcomed.  His current responsibilities as Senior Project Manager relate to complex cross-government spatial information iniatives, data custodianship and driving SLIP.

Jenny joined the team at the beginning of 2008 from Landgate's Geographic Services Division.  She is currently working on the Marine Focus area, and developing her skills in Interragator+ and Atlas.

Mrs Tessa Barkman, Project Officer

Tess joined the WALIS Office in 1999 and has a background in event management and communication.  Tess worked on a number of different projects with the WALIS Office and is currently working on a variety of projects, including the public private alliance.

Ms Melissah MacKenzie, Project Officer

Melissah started with Landgate in early 2002, working in the organisational change and policy area until joining WALIS in June 2008.  Her tenure with the organisation has provided her with well-rounded experience and broad knowledge.  Melissah’s responsibilities include WALISNews, the e-newsletter, marketing and event coordination.

Marion has joined the WALIS team from Information Services Executive, DLI. She has a wealth of experience gained from working in various government departments such as ArtsWA, Water and Rivers Commission and Water Corporation. Marion’s current responsibilities include executive support to SMG, WALIS Council, WAC, and various sub-committess.

Ms Jade George, Project Officer

Jade comes to the WALIS Office from Landgate, where she has been building on her experience as a GIS Officer.  Jade will be managing the WA Atlas and Interragator + from the WALIS Community perspective, developing SLICP and various other projects.
